19th century Port Dalhousie Lock 1 property records
« on: Thursday 10 August 23 18:25 BST (UK) »
Hello,

I am looking for any information that might shed more light on my third great grandfather Thomas Murphy 1822-1877. Sometime after 1871 our family left New Brunswick for Port Dalhousie. In an 1877 city directory I found Thomas Murphy, boarding house keeper Lock 1. Thomas died in July 1877 in Port Dalhousie. I even managed to find a person or two that was residing at 'Thomas Murphy Lock 1.'

I am wondering if there might be any probate records that might indicate any particular property he may have purchased, mortgaged, or leased.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you!

Kevin Murphy

Found this old map of what, I think, is the area - dated 1855?. Lists those of "note" in the locale - but no Murphy.

Thank you for sharing. Thomas and the family wouldn't have moved to Port Dalhousie until after 1871, perhaps before 1876.

Land records are only available through the Land Registry Offices in Ontario dating back to the original land grant.  Probate records are available on microfilm available through the Ontario Archives.  Many early land transfers are found in the land records if that was their only asset.
