hi. looking for any information on elizabeth french please. my information has her being born around 1820 in  St Peter Port, Guernsey. she married william chick in but i think that may have been around 1842 in devon. sorry no idea on the parents of elizabeth. thank you.brian

Did you check the 1851 for Guernsey?  She was b Devon as was William.  Son b Somerset

Where did you get her maiden name from?  More possibly Pinney?  Are you sure you have the right couple?

hi yes see that think william married elizabeth pinner. before he married eliz french and when william died she re married to william fletcher who i think was b st peter port guernsey not sure of the birth but think it was much later than eliz 1840s poss. sorry its a mess. thank you.brian

William's baptism notes his mother's maiden name was French, father William Chick

Given the ages it's a different William and Elizabeth.

Look at the 1851 census for Guernsey for William Chick 38 & wife JANE 42 -  Elizabeth French aged 20 is shown as niece

There is also a Phillips nephew & in 1861 William & ELIZABETH  Chick have a 2 yr old child with them surname Phillips

elizabeth 1820 dorset.
john 1844 chard. think this may be the correct one.

The 1851 entry you quote above clearly shows William Chick b Thorncombe Devon - not just “England”

Elizabeth French is the niece of the other William Chick who was married to Jane.  That William was b 1813 England & wife & children b Guernsey
