William CAWSTON, Born C1827, Wisbech
« on: Friday 11 August 23 13:19 BST (UK) »
Hello,

This is a difficult case.

I have completed the usual index searches family details (birth etc.) to no avail .......the only information I have managed to uncover is from his convict documentation in Tasmania, which states:

Father:  George
No Mother
Brothers: George, Henry, Charles,
Sisters:  Emily, Jane, Fanny

He was imprisoned in 1842 and 1843.....but no 1841 Census.....and transported in 1845.

Possibly someone can help??   Thank you.

Have you looked for his siblings on censuses or marriages for his sisters?

Do his records confirm he was b Wisbech

Thank you for all that detail.   I'm vey grateful as it does help enormously.

However, it did throw up one peculiar fact using your information in further searching.   The father, George, was acquitted on 29/07/1842 of receiving stolen goods.   The very day his son, William, in the same court was found guilty of theft!!!!

Ciderdrinker,

Thank you for those details......I thought George CAWSTON possibly married Maria MOTHERSOLE, which you have now confirmed, and I'm happy to go searching further with that knowledge.
