christian name unknown

Apologies in advance if I have asked this question before.

Some of my Irish birth certs record the child's christian name as unknown. I'm guessing the parents couldn't think of a names at time of registration , or could there have been another reason?  :-\

Another reason was the child being born in a lying-in hospital or a maternity hospital and the occupier of said hospital registering the birth e.g. Rotunda hospital, Dublin.

In earlier times some people did not like to speak the child's name until they had been baptised.
