Very good point but when the son of James harry was looking into james harry elphicks military records at kew a lawyer got in touch with James harry elphick asking for proof of who he was. Then a while later a suitcase was delivered to James harry elphick containing all of his mother possessions.  The army had kept it all . From when she died in the late twenties/thirties until it was received by James harry elphick in the late 1970s . So she definitely died.

All in the Armed forces birth indices.

Both of those girls appear in the death indexes

I can't see any other Elphick deaths after James birth on that index in Egypt

ADDED There are no other Elphick births in Egypt after James on that index

Unfortunately they are too early. Thank you . She definitely died after 1926. I can't find any either. So frustrating.  But thanks again.

The newspaper report of the divorce of Hugh Elphick makes no mention of any children. 

It does look as though you need to buy a certificate

I think I'm going to have to.
I was hoping that I would find a marriage entry for James harry that wasn't indexed but no lol.
I keep saying we will only find out for definite if a certificate is purchased but the person I'm doing this with doesn't want to . If nothing is found by Monday then I'm going to pull rank lol and purchase one. I haven't done that for years so it's all changed from when I did it last.

The Weekly Dispatch 5 August 1928

His wife Kate Mildred Elphick, British Subject born Cairo, married  November 1918 Hugh Clifford Elphick.
He had returned to England and she was advised by her doctors to remain in Egypt.

She requested funds to come to England 10 1927, his lawyers said it was only because his father a wealthy man had died etc.    He was granted a divorce.

So she didn't die in childbirth.
Perhaps it was she who became a nurse stories to change over time.

She definitely died as the army kept all of her possessions after she died . Long story but a suitcase the army had kept since her death in the late twenties or early thirties was returned to her son james harry elphick in the late 1970s. They kept it all that time. It was quite a shock to receive it apparently.
