Family of George Henry RUNDLE

I am trying to trace the RUNDLE family line back further and would appreciate your help.
I have traced back to 1874 when George was born in Stoke Damerel Plymouth (Q4 1874 5b 308) and in the 1881 census has his mother as Sophia (30) and George aged 7 which feels right, but no trace of his father.
I cannot seem to find a marriage of Sophia and George's father either so struggling to go back further. Perhaps she lived outside of Devon for the 1871 census, was widowed etc but 1881 census has her down as married not widowed so I have reached a block in my search.
Any help would be appreciated

There is a marriage on freebmd for a George Rundle and Sophia Damerell AMJ 1871 Kingsbridge 3b 357.

That ref on GRO gives mothers maiden name as Pound.
