Hard-to-read surname
« on: Saturday 12 August 23 23:48 BST (UK) »
Hello, I was wondering if anyone can help me decipher a relative's maiden surname, please? I'm fairly confident it says 'Amy Turner formerly Halford', but just wanted to double-check what other people thought; I'm not sure about the letter at the end. Thanks!  :)

Yes, the child was Elijah Turner. I just wasn't sure about mother's maiden name; Halford, I think?

What year & where?  A lot of Elijah Turner births on freebmd

Can’t immediately see a Turner/Halford marriage on freebmd unless it was pre 1837

I’ve just checked GRO online with the details you gave and mmn is shown as Halford

Is this the family in 1851

Old Weston, Thrapston, Huntingdonshire

HO107/1745/446

Parents were William and Amy Turner. Aged 43 and 42

I would think that parents would have married before 1837.

Thank you, Carole, that's amazing! I shall definitely use the GRO search option in future  :D

It probably is that family, Gadget; they were based in Old Weston for quite some time. What does the HO107/1745/446 reference mean though?
