 Afternoon,

A baptismal record for an ancestor of mine reads -

'Donald McFarlane & Anabella McLean late in Baligown had their daughter Catherine baptised D.I.P'.

Can anyone tell me what both 'late in' and 'D.I.P' refers to?

Possibilities:-
They had lived in Baligown at one time but were not settled there when  the Baptism took place ,presumably that was somewhere else.
Perhaps they were “ travellers” of no settled abode.
Many possibilities for D.I.P.
Possibly Latin.H
However the parents do not seem to have been married , so perhaps something to do with that.

Just to add to what Viktoria has said:

It was usual for a married woman to be referred to by her 'maiden' name in Scotland. In fact most baptisms list the mother in this way. 

Could you give the date, please?

I wonder if it is a reference to the payment of the duty of 3d imposed on entries in parish registers by the 1783 Stamp Act? It was repealed in 1794, so would be in force at this time. Maybe the D is "Duty" and the P is "Paid"?

The imposition of the tax led to a reduction in the number of entries in the registers.
