Jamieson
« on: Tuesday 15 August 23 09:00 BST (UK) »
I am researching Florence Ford Jamieson from Edinburgh, plus her son, George Lewis Jamieson.  I have a copy of George's birth certificate, but am unable to find any information about Florence.
George was born on 12 October 1923 in the Royal Maternity Hospital, Edinburgh.  Mother is Florence who was a Tobacconist's shop assistant. Domicil: none fixed.
George was given up for adoption by the Paul family.  I have a copy of the passenger list of "Maloja" dated 30th January 1950, which shows a George Paul, a Goldminer, migrating to Australia.  His address was 35 Broomhouse St South, Edinburgh.
If anyone is able to help me find more information on Florence (especially) or George, I'd be grateful.

Welcome to RootsChat!

If I were you I'd start by looking for Florence in the 1921 census at www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk.

You should find her usual residence on George's birth certificate, which will help you to find the right one - but it shouldn't be too difficult as there are only 10 Florence Jam*sons in the 1921 census, and some are either too young or too old to be yours.
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

Welcome to RC from me too  :)

For those with a subs, there is a family tree for the Frances you found Neale here www.ancestry.co.uk/family-tree/person/tree/174114161/person/352262234742/facts

Needs to be verified with original source of records.

Frances Forde Jamieson's details are confusing. She named her parents in her 1926 marriage as Malcolm Jamieson and Helen Flanagan.

This couple married in 1884 in Edinburgh. There are some births showing with MMN of Flanagan (and variants) in Edinburgh. Nothing for a Frances with that MMN.

Helen Flanagan Jamieson died in Leith in 1923, aged 67. Also a possible death for a Malcolm Jamieson same year and location. This Malcolm aged 63. The 1911 census (from the general index) does not show a Frances, just parents and the children born after their marriage up to the 1890s.

Frances gave her age in 1926 as 22 (maybe she took off a few years?).

When she married, she gave her occupation as a shop assistant. One of the witnesses was a Margaret Shaw Jamieson.

That 1902 birth you mention was illegitimate. Mother Bessie Forde.

Possible marriage in Edinburgh for a Bessie Forde in 1905 to a Hugh Courtney.
