Marriage
« on: Tuesday 15 August 23 22:55 BST (UK) »
Looking for the marriage of a Richard Freeman and Margaret Fetherton or more likely Mary Fetherston
24th June 1838. No indication of religion. I think it was in Dublin.

It is on Family Search as a transcript ( not original image of church record) but gives no indication where the marriage occurred. Supposedly on FS in the civil records from 1845, but when I contacted GRO they said their records only started from 1845 and this marriage was in 1838.

Any help appreciated. Thanks for reading.

This is the source for that indexed marriage:

Some conversation about the registers here:

Apparently at the GRO in Roscommon.

Irishancestors has the date as 24 June 1836

Thank you CaroleW & Dundee (Debra) for your help.  Much appreciated.

I have seen the original church record  entry for this marriage once.

While the transcript on FS has it as Margaret Fetherton, it reads to me as Mary Fetherston.

In my wife's family there was a marriage between a Richard Freeman ( a miniature artist ) born around 1800 and Mary Fetherston b1822. In 1838 Mary would only have been 16 years old.

If anyone has access to the microfilm at FS it is

Digital Folder Number 007944795
Image Number  00222

Thanks again

Does anyone have a copy of "Irregular Marriages in Dublin before 1837" compiled by Henry (Harry) McDowell, who could look up the marriage of a Richard Freeman around 1836 / 1838 to a Margaret Fetherton or Mary Fetherston? Thanks.

The late Roz McCutcheon's transcription of the Schulze Marriage Register has a Richard Freeman marrying a Margaret Fetherton 24 June 1836.

Thank you very much dublin 1850.

Can I ask,  do you have access to the original church entry (hand written) or is the extra info you have provided i.e the bride's first name Margaret come from a transcript? The reason I ask is because I have seen the original church hand written entry for this marriage once and in my view it did not correspond with the information given in the transcript. In my view it said Mary Fetherston. Only four letters for Mary not Margaret. Could the transcriber have mistake Mary for Marg ?

Does anyone out there have access to the original church hand written entry for this marriage of Richard Freeman & Mary (Margaret) Fetherston (Fetherton)  24 June 1836 /1838 in Dublin?

Thanks

It's from a transcript. I suppose mistakes can always happen, but Roz was a very experienced transcriber.

Thanks dublin1850

Family Search have the original entry which is not normally viewable online. But on 5th Sept a family member will hopefully have the opportunity to view the original entry online directly from Utah.
