Ipad charger & plug for iPhone?

Can I use my iPad (3 yrs old) charger and plug with an iPhone7? 

Apologies if this is obvious but I am a complete technophobe.

If the cap fits ie the attachment end goes in the slot I don’t see why it wouldn’t work.

Yes. Definitely. I charge my phone and Ipad with the same charger, (however I believe some chargers charge faster than others). As Milliepede says, as long as the connector fits both devices, it’s fine.

I agree ive been charging that way for some years and yes it is slightly faster but ive had no issues.

I even charge my little hand held vac with the same one

You can't damage a phone or ipad  by using a higher power charger. The item under charge will take only the maximum current it can use.
