You need to amend your post as I doubt the twins were both called Elizabeth Ann ;D

The other twin was Eliza Ellen

First of all were the family of sufficient status to warrant a report in a newspaper?

Photography was in its infancy in the 1840s.  Initially people had to stay still for a long time.  They rarely smiled.  Various photographic processes were in use in the 1840s and 1850s e.g. ambrotypes introduced in 1851. These are glass with a backing of black shellac.  Earlier daguerrotypes still needed one or two minutes exposure to fix an image.

Photographs did not appear in newspapers for quite a while.

Have you looked to see if anyone researching this family has an online tree anywhere and perhaps has shared a photograph?

Nell
