There is a 1780 burial in Great Yarmouth for an Edmund "Bammont." No age provided, unfortunately.

Thank you so much for all this information! About your post earlier, are you saying you arent sure the Edmund I am trying to find is the one within these records? Just asking because I'm very confused.

Theres little to no information on Edmund but I know that the spelling of his name is "Beaumont" because his son has records. Or were you saying that his birthday may be similar to Mary Golden's?

Many thanks

Edmund and Mary had John Beaumont, born 1744 in Norwich, Norfolk.

I assume you are looking for John's father, Edmund, who married Mary?

Based on the date of Edmund's marriage to Mary (1739), I do not believe that he is the man who was buried in 1799 in Great Yarmouth at the age of 66 (born c.1733). He would have been ~6 years old at marriage (yes, burial records can be inaccurate, but it is unlikely that it is this inaccurate, in my opinion).

I think it is likely that these are 2 different Edmund Beaumonts. If you are looking for John's father, Edmund, then it is likely that he was born closer to the time his wife (Mary Golden) was, which is 1716.

Theres little to no information on Edmund but I know that the spelling of his name is "Beaumont" because his son has records.

It is important to remember that spelling wasn't standardised as it is today, and there were also high levels of illiteracy. The spelling in the parish register is based on what the person writing the entry believed that they heard, not what it necessarily was. I have seen much crazier spelling variations! I have Pyke ancestors, and their surnames were frequently written as "Pecke" in the register.

What I am guessing happened for Edmund Beaumont was that he was illiterate and had a thick accent, so that who ever wrote it either spelt it out through saying it or wrote down what they heard. Thank you so much for your help again. I really apprietiate it!
