Wartime?

Absolutely. Still a bit weird though. Only three marriages that quarter at St Jude's, Hexthorpe, and two of them with a groom called Gossling (or Gosling!)

Another newspaper announcement (and another free ocr text to deal with!)
Eastbourne Herald, 18 November 1944
GOSLING.—On November 13, 1944, of 4 York-road, Dorothy, beloved wife of Driver Gosling, and treasured daughter of Charles and Dorothy Humphrey, all of whom wish to thank friends and neighbours for kindness and floral tributes.

From electoral registers, 4 York Road is her parents address.

How do you come to that conclusion. They didn't marry until 1946.

Dorothy is clearway described as beloved wife of Driver Gosling when she died in 1944, which doesn;t suggest he has another woman in his life

From other info, maybe not the same John G Gosling at all

1939 register that John is a coal hewer father John, Mother Mary, living Aberdare Glamorgan. 1921 free index with same family down as Granville.

Jul-Aug-Sep 1946
Registration district   St. Helens
Inferred County   Lancashire

John G Gosling - Veronica Ayling

Couple can be found in Electrol together in Glamorgan

Not sure if same man who married Dorothy as he was a band crooner and boxer?

If the 1943 marriage cert shows him as John Granville Gosling - then band crooner/boxer or not he is the one who married Dorothy & is on the 1921 census plus 1939 register.  I suspect the marriage cert will show him as a soldier or similar.

The 2003 death in my first reply is undoubtedly his

Veronica Ayling was b 1924 - birth registered Prescot is in keeping with the 1946 St Helens marriage

Death Veronica Gosling  67 Birth 5.7.1924
Registration Date    Aug 1991
Registration district    Ogwr
Inferred County    Mid Glamorgan
Volume    27

From www.lancashirebmd.org.uk

GOSLING   John Granville   AYLING   Veronica   1946   St Marks, St Helens   St Helens   C7/5/387

Check the birth registrations - as the song goes  - "There's only one John Granville Gosling" ;D
