Ward/Grotz
« on: Saturday 19 August 23 14:35 BST (UK) »
Hi I was just wondering if once more I could ask for assistance please.  I'm trying to clarify  the parents of William Ward b 1878 8n Dent he married Annie Grotz.
I've had a look on Ancestry and it comes up with John Ward b 1844 who married Barbara Burrows..I then see Jihns father as Richard Parrington  b 1818.   I confess these details are on someone's tree  a person called Ward  so i assumed as surnames were same all details would be ok but i cant understand why 3 generations up Surname goes from Ward to Parrington !!!! I know it's not advisable to copy someone's tree but was just looking .
Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you

Ward looks like your John's grandparents surname somewhere along the line.

On his marriage to Barbara he is using Ward. He names his father as Richard Parrington.

He seems to be using Parrington on the 1851 census with his widowed father Richard and then flips to Ward by the 1861.  He is apparently living with grandparents James and Margaret Ward in 61.

Maybe he fell out with his father and took another family name?  I can't find a marriage between a Ward and Richard Parrington though to account for the relationship unless there are second marriages involved someplace.

No problem
I think you are on the right track.

I can't find John Ward/Parrington's baptism to confirm who Mum was and his birth registration has Mum's name as a blank.   He is registered as a Parrington on the GRO.

There is a Parrington/Ward marriage in 1847 which is 4 years before John was born...  and Mum may be Eleanor Ward but I can't confirm it quite yet....actually as I think about it with those dates maybe he was using Ward because Mum was Ward and he was born before she married his Dad Richard
