Thanks everyone.

I am now inclined to think she died on the voyage, or even before the ship left. Births and deaths on the ship would have been included in the Surgeon's diary, but not sure if this exists or has been transcribed.

Robert's will specifically mentions all the children, except for Annabella/Janet, so she must have died.

Do have the 1841 census.

Ann and Annabella aren't the same person as Ann was born 1838
GRO Reference: 1838  S Quarter in CHORLTON  Volume 20  Page 234 mmn LAMB

Strange that she wasn't baptised like all the others. Elizabeth's was only about three weeks before the ship left Gravesend. You would think the new baby would be done at the same time, unless she had died.

The passenger list was probably done some time before the ship left, and they would have been made up from the applications, where they were told there would be seven children.

No death on FreeBMD or GRO that resembles anything like Annabella or Janet GLASGOW.

Hi Ian,

You will find the book Pioneer Passengers. To Nelson by sailing ship March 1842-June 1843 by June Neale (1982) pp.81-88 very helpful as it recounts the voyage of the Bombay including the episode of the blood transfusion (I suspect that the author had access to the medical journal listed by Minniehaha above).

The book also provides what appears to be a complete passenger list (pp.164-166) for the voyage, listing three births and five (sic- actually six) deaths. Fortunately these are annotated, allowing identification, vis:

BIRTHS
COOK female child
FERME female child
MCCORMICK male child 'Wife gave birth to son. Died aged 2 weeks'

DEATHS
GELL Mary 1
MCCORMICK male infant
MCGOWAN John infant
MCROBERTS Margaret 1
MARCHANT Emily Louisa infant
STRONG Lucy 2

No death is recorded against any member of the GLASGOW family.

I suggest that you confirm the identify of Anna HOGG by death certificate. Her marriage certificate will not name her parents, too early.

Hope this helps,

Obtained the image of Annabella's birth from the GRO. She was born 3 Nov 1841 at Hulme, the address being given as 41 Great Jackson Street, the same address the family was at in the 1841 census some months before.
