The 1931 electoral roll has his occupation as Carrier, although he appears later to have become a Tailor.

Ian bet me ;D  The 1928 E/R  also says Carrier, which is a year before the wedding, so that occupation would probably fit.

Hi guys,

I realise you have solved the mystery of the occupation :), but I just wanted to say that the "D" is similar to my Dad's upper-case "D". (Dad is a Brit and was born in 1938.)

He writes it like the one shown here:

but with a gap between the top of the initial downstroke and the loop. Not quite as big a gap as in the UP's image, but similar.  :)
