Johnsey or Johnson from Down Ampney c1770s
« on: Wednesday 23 August 23 12:24 BST (UK) »
Hi all,
In an effort to find the birthplace & parents of my four times great grandfather William Johnsey, who died in Shorncote in 1833 I have been trying to trace Johnsey families in Gloucestershire with sons called William of the right era.
I have the family of Richard Johnson, who marries Susanna Beam(e)s in Down Ampney in 1765. His burial in Down Ampney in gives his name as Richard Johnsey and most of his children are baptised Johnson apart from Frances who is Johnsey. Maybe they swapped around the names a lot?
However, I can’t seem to find anything else on the children including marriages or definite burials, although the surname could be causing me problems.
Can anyone find out more about the family and where the children went?
I also found a record on Ancestry for a William Johnsey in UK, Regimental Registers of Service, 1756-1900 which gives his birthplace as Ampney so it could fit with Richard & Susannah’s son born 1871 and would also fit the timeline for my 4GG as he left the army in 1814 and my ancestor marries in Kempsford in 1815. Can anyone find out more about that record or any others that might prove or disprove my theory?

Am I allowed to link to my Public tree on Ancestry?
My William married Sarah Stop (nee Painter) in 1815, had Henry 1817 in Kempsford and Job 1820 in Shorncote.

Yes that’s him. Then he marries Ann Lewis. They don’t have any children and he appears to run off to Bristol and eventually Newport, Monmouthshire & have children with but doesn’t marry Julia Prosser.

Not sure how to add an old thread, (3 pages) on the same subject,  but there is a previous thread from goatfish77 dated 16 October 2018 - which, at the time, I among others contributed.

My paternal side were from Down Ampney/local area  17/18/19 century and their surname was also had an Alias.

Thanks Capetown.
I have been working on the families you mentioned last time but still haven’t found a connection. This time I am asking more about the Richard Johnson/Susanna Beams family and their children and the Regimental record I found.
Do you think that Mary Ann Beams was a relative of Susanna’s?
