Hello,  I'm a new(ish) member and am being mentored in my family history research by Malcolm Bland - along term researcher who has suggested we are now at the stage where we need to reach out for help. My family appears to originate in Norfolk before a branch arrives here in Yorkshire where I am. I have details of my West line going back to Thorpe Abbotts but I am stuck at a William West (1756-1844) and his marriage with Susan Lines (1763 - 1805) with a degree of confidence, but cannot get beyond that with certainty. There is a possible Edward b1738 in Reymerstone and his marriage to a Tomazine. I am a member of Norfolk Family History which helps confirm William, and Edward's baptism in 1738 with parents showing as Thomas West and Mary Banfield? Anyway I am stuck now and would really appreciate some guidance. I can send a word document with dates and towns as to where I am at the moment. Can anyone help please? Owen

If naming patterns apply his third child - first son is Amos - paternal grand father ?

First child - first daughter Mary - maternal grand mother?

Second child second daughter Susannah - named for her mother/ paternal grand mother

Fourth child second son James - maternal grand father ?

The Susan Lines in South Lopham was bap 26 June 1763 to John and Mary

Children of William and Susan found so far, all baptized South Lopham, birth date listed.

Mary 14 October 1787    --born 6th October
Susannah 3 February 1790  -- born 30 January
Amos 13 January 1792  -- born 8th January
James  23 November 1794  -- born 3 August 1794
Robert  7 October 1798 -- born 10 March 1796*
William  25 December 1802  -- born 3 August 1800*
Martha  25 December 1802  -- born 1 October 1802

---
There is an Edward West widower who marries Mary Mallows single 1755 South Lopham - marriage date not found yet, banns called in August.

Mary West was buried 18 February 1784 age 56 the entry notes wife of Edward late Mallows
so born circa 1728. So she would have been of child bearing age when they married 1755.

If William was born circa 1756 they could be his parents however he doesn't name a son Edward!

Edward first wife appears to be Sara Bowdell 9 January 1743/4 South Lopham

Sara was buried 13 March 1754  -wife of Edward , South Lopham

Which one of William's children is your direct relative?.

I don't see a death of William West 1845 aged 45.
Where is his death recorded please.

Try the Norfolk Records Office for any information on the West families of Thorpe Abbotts or South Lopham.

Otherwise try Suffolk it's within walking distance of South Lopham.
