Liverpool Lambs
« on: Friday 25 August 23 10:55 BST (UK) »
I'm looking for a few people who left Liverpool to come to Ireland for the Easter Rising in 1916. If people will be kind and patient with me, I'll post continued requests about this.
The first person I'm looking for is a teacher called Kathleen Murphy; her mother's maiden name was Devine.
According to Nora Thornton's Bureau of Military History witness statement, "The girls I remember that came over from Liverpool for the Rising were Kathleen Murphy, a teacher, who went back to Liverpool after the Rising. She was with the boys in Jacob's and she finished up in the GPO."
https://www.militaryarchives.ie/collections/online-collections/bureau-of-military-history-1913-1921/reels/bmh/BMH.WS0655.pdf#page=1
Kathleen had a brother who also came over, flying under his mother's maiden name as Fred Victor Devine… I'm not sure if his forenames were actually Frederick Victor; he ended up in America after having many, many addresses.

I have to go out for a short time so hopefully someone will come along.
Here is a mention of her - you may have this as there are a couple of names there who you were searching earlier

There is mention of Victor Murphy here
https://www.rootschat.com/links/01slz/

I’m not having much luck finding Kathleen or Victor in 1911.

Added
There is a Victor Murphy b 1894 with parents, Peter Murphy and Adelaide Devine but no sister, Kathleen.

Added
On the commemoration, there is a Peader J  Murphy above Victor Murphy. Victor mentioned above had a brother Peter Joseph.

You can search in Family Search for 1911 census. It is free but you sign in.
Here is a Kathleen but she is a seamstress. She has a sister,  Ann Rosaleen and a brother Frederick Joseph but nothing really to confirm anything. The commemoration mentioned earlier re Victor Murphy shows Kathleen and a Rose Ann Murphy. :-\

It’s best to post what you know about ‘Frederick Victor’.

Hi
Looking at the 1921 free look up in Everton
Peter Murphy 52 Monaghan grocers manager
Adelaide 52 Amargh
Louis A 29 Liverpool
Frederick 27 Grocers Manager
Adelaide 24 School teacher
Leslie 22 Grocers assistant
Peter15 school

So could Kathleen be really Adelaide  Murphy age 24. born c 1897.Her full name was Adelaide Kathleen Murphy born June 1897 West Derby.
To add there is a daughter Clara Josephine 28 March 1900 ,Josephine Elinora born 29 Dec 1903,Eileen Lilian  May 15th 1910 and a Peter Ernest 1901.
The family went to Anfield All Saints.

It looks like Peter Murphy and Adelaide Margaret Devine married in Mar qtr 1891 West Derby.St Alphonso 10th Feb
Peter Murphy 159 Gt Mersey St s of Henrici ? Murphy
Adelaide Margaret Devine 27 Westminster Road d of Jacobus/James
wit William Flood and Catherine Devine
Looking at the censuses Adelaide was the daughter of Janes and Catherine Devine general dealer born 1839 and 1849.Peter is the son of Henry Murphy born 1853 carter and a Miss Carroll who is not with the family in 1881 at Scottie Road but seems to be a Catherine Carroll.

The Murphy family are at 2 Bulwer St 1911 and 1901
Adelaide buried Ford Cemetery 28 March 1951 of Martens Lane Wallasey
Peter died 9th April 1930 at 53 Mill Lane Wallasey leaving £1409 18' 5d to his wife.

I can't see Adelaide Kathleen after 1921.

Does that help ? What sort of things are you after?

I just found this re Rose  Ann Murphy with an address of Parr Street
https://www.rootschat.com/links/01sm0/

1921 has a family, I think, at Parr Street. (I searched that address anyway).

James b 1852, Louth
Mary Eliza b 1857, Louth
Frederick b 1893
Rose Ann b 1898

This would need checking as those younger names don’t match up with 1911 for James and Mary from Louth.
Perhaps a relationship but not parent/child?

Hello Again
Looks like I 've found her marriage
30th Oct 1926 Bombay by banns
John Frederick Patton 29 banker Malabar Hill s of John
Adelaide Kathleen Murphy 24 Malabar Hill d of Peter

Is that her ? The age is out but she could well want to look younger
John Frederick was from around the corner 33 Stanley St West Derby. He worked for the Nat and Provincial.
1916-1919 with the Royal Navy Reserve.
It looks like she died at Moston Hosp 3 Sep 1966 but that is from a Will entry so there could be another Adelaide Kathleen Paton.
Obviously you may know more and I may be on the wrong track

I have digressed to Rose Ann Murphy who is also mentioned in those references so hopefully not in vain!

Her marriage is on Liverpool Catholic marriages. She married Henry Joseph Morgan in 1929.
Her parents James and Mary Eliza and her address Parr Street which fits.
