Castle Inn Stratford
« on: Friday 25 August 23 18:17 BST (UK) »
I have a newspaper clip from 1890 about a “farewell smoking concert” given for a relative and another man who were leaving for South Africa.

Neither were local to the area, presume had work there, was it usual to give farewell concerts for incoming people to the area?  Seems a generous thing to do.

Would love to see what the Castle Inn looked like but without a street name is it possible to find where it was?

The Essex Times, 1 Apr 1871, carries an article about the Castle Inn, Stratford, New Town, proprietor Mr Dorton

The 1871 Census has a John Dorton, Licensed Victualler, address Leyton Road, Castle Hotel, West Ham, London. Registration sub district is Stratford.
