There's a Carrubbers Close in Edinburgh that runs from the High Street down to Jeffrey Street.

I'll try different spellings tomorrow.  I have a feeling this is going to be a long search.  ;)

The surname “Carruthers” might come out as Crubbers if mis-heard.

In the left margin of that certificate it says, "Clerical error, column 5'. If you look in Col 5, the second r in Crubbers has been struck out, making the name Crubbes not Crubbers.

James seems to have been one of quite a large family. See screenshot.


Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.
