You can get the birth certificates from the GRO if you need them.  Did Henry have a middle name

There are these entries for Sandles on the GRO index for Army births listed under place, year, regt
Henrietta - Montreal -1860 - 100th
Henry C - Quebec -1859 -100th
Henry C - Quebec - 1859 - R.C.R (is this the same Henry C as the one above)
Isabella -Newfoundland - 1864 - 100th
Mary A - Kingston -1862 - 100th
William - Newcastle - 1852 - 52nd

Reference numbers are obtainable on the indexes on FindMyPast

Henry's middle name was Charles born 10th May 1859 so would imagine they were the same one.

I have all of those siblings but didn't know their exact places of birth, only knew they were Canada and the remaining children born in Lewes. Thank you

That can't be him as his birth date is 1897. Elizabeth was married in 1858

There is a Richard Shanahan bn c1805 Clanfert, Cork who is a Private in 50th Regt Foot - his discharge records show he was in New South Wales.

Record is on FindMyPast

Thank you I will go and investigate further.

So I have trawled through this information and found Richard. Interestingly also part of the 50th is a Matthew Monaghan - on another forum someone suggested that was Elizabeth/Margaret the daughter of a fellow soldier who was killed. His wife could have then married Richard.....a long shot but you never know.

I've discounted Matthew as he seems to be of a higher rank.

Further down is a Robert Monaghan who sailed on a convict ship in May 1835 along with Richard Shanahan. So I wonder if Robert is the father of Margaret/Eilzabeth?

Do you have a name for the wife of Richard Shanahan? And was she here in Australia with him?

I'm still trying to search for a marriage for Richard but as yet haven't come across one.
