Lodging House Keepers
« on: Sunday 27 August 23 06:36 BST (UK) »
Attached a Professional Directory 1878 Perthshire.   On the bottom right of this list are two people of interest.
Catherine Campbell and Helen Campbell   Lodging House keepers.

Would anyone have information about these two ladies.   Were they related, perhaps Sisters?
What town or city were they located?
Regards

Helen   Campbell   Head Unmarried 45   Lodging house keeper Moulin, Perthshire

South Methven Street is in the city of Perth.

I can't find Methven Street in the LDS CD-ROM transcription of the 1881 census.

The 1875 and 1885 valuation rolls each mention two Catherine Campbells in the Burgh of Perth, but none is at 71 Methven Street and the ones in 1875 are not at the same addresses in 1885.

You need to find out what the intervening VRs say - they are not online as far as I know so you'd need to go the library in Perth, or the National Library of Scotland in Edinburgh, or the Scotland's People Centre in Edinburgh, all of which should have the relevant books.

There are more street directories online at https://digital.nls.uk/directories/
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

Perthshire Advertiser, 29 Apr 1908
"It has been agreed by the Town Council to grant Miss Campbell, St. Anne's Lane, who has been tenant in the City Hall property for half a century, a sum of £3 for certain fixtures.

1878 Jane Campbell married William Boswell Cook in Perth

1881 Jane Campbell Cook, widow, 37, in census in Perth with sister Ann, 55, and 5 boarders

1891 Jane Cook, 47, in census in Perth with sister Ann, 64, and two boarders

1894 Ann Campbell, 70, mother's surname McDougall, died in Perth

1908 Jane Campbell or Cook died in Perth, mother's maiden surname not indexed

1908 Helen Campbell, 72, died in Perth, mother's maiden surname not indexed

I think you need to look at Jane's marriage certificate to find out the names of their parents.

Thanks to everyone who responded -- I have a lot to search now.
To Forfarian would like to visit the places you mention in Perth.
Unfortunately, as I live in faraway Tasmania I am unable to to do so.
Have been searching for some years a Helen Campbell. born  1840, Blairgowrie Perthshire without much success.  Her name appears on her Grand Parents Gravesite at Meigle, sadly no place or date of death.
