Can anyone help find inquest in newspaper?
« on: Sunday 27 August 23 18:10 BST (UK) »
Hi all ever since I received my ancestors death certificate several years ago that stated there was in inquest into her death that concluded a verdict of 'misadventure' I have been searching for the report of the inquest in the newspapers to no luck, and wondered if anyone else might have some luck finding it for me? (fresh eyes etc) I have a subscription to british newspaper archives so if found I can look it up there just struggling to find it.

Details:
Her name was Elizabeth Webb she died 9th Oct 1934 in Kingston Upon Thames, lived at 22 Hudson Road Kingston. The death certificate states cause of death as syncope + shock during administration of chloroform (2 parts) + ether (3 parts) for operation for acute intestinal obstruction. p.m misadventure

Thank you in advance

I had no luck finding it either. I do wonder if the papers chose the more dramatic inquests to cover? The ones I found were mainly accidents of various kinds, rather than a more "medical" death.

If you put “misadventure anaesthetic “ into the search a sobering number of deaths under anaesthetic come up. But I cannot see your one.
Perhaps the right newspaper hasn’t been digitised yet.

Have you considered contacting Kingston upon Thames Archives to ask if they hold local newspapers from 1934 and would they do a search for you?

Papers on FindMyPast that seem to cover Kingston on Thames in 1934 are

Daily Herald
Daily News (London)
Middlesex County Times
Richmond Herald
West Middlesex Gazette

and possibly also
Surrey Mirror
Surrey Advertiser

National papers are also covering some news

The Surrey Comet offices were towards Kingston Marketplace, road opposite Bentalls.

They only have records up to 1919 on FindMyPast so worth investigating

Was that Church Street  :-\

@Rosie. Just had a look on Google maps. It's changed so much, I can't tell.  Knapp Drewett was the name of the premises, and were the Surrey Comet publishers.
You can't miss it. The Organ Grinder and his monkey are always outside next to the Flower stall. :D

Epsom, Esher, Molesey, Weybridge libraries and the Kingston History centre hold back copies. A call to one of them might help for 1934.
It was Surrey County Council, now London Borough of Kingston upon Thames.
