Two Baptism Records.

I was hoping someone could help with the following.

I have found two baptism records for Alfred Finney.

The first one dated 15 Feb 1890 at St Paul's, Preston. Parents Joseph Jackson Finney and Ellen. Occupation Tailor.

The second one is on the 7 Jan 1894 at St Johns, Preston same parents and occupation.

I assumed that the first Alfred had died but on searching records I can,t find a birth or death for the child.

The Parents Joseph Jackson and Ellen Smith married in 1889.

Would it be possible the baby was born before marriage but was baptized under their married name so the child would have been born Alfred Smith?

I would appreciate any other suggestions. I may even have missed the birth/death record.

What age is the Alfred that is with Joseph and Ellen in 1901

There's a death registered Mar 1890 Preston for an Alfred Finning age 0. 

Could be him if there was a mistake with the surname.

He is 7 so the latter Alfred.

Alfred is 7 on the 1901 census

Forget the Alfred Finning suggestion - there is a corresponding birth in Preston Mar 1890 with mothers name Smith so not yours **

** sorry you did say Ellen was a Smith so was his birth registered as Finney or Finning?

Mothers name is Ellen Smith so looking good Millie

Yes.  As both the birth and death is under Finning and neither under Finney it looks very hopeful.

I suppose if you wanted to be 100% you could get the certificate for him.
