Samuel MURDEN, Nottingham for dating please
« on: Tuesday 29 August 23 10:57 BST (UK) »
Could I please have suggestions for the date of this CdV image. I'm particularly interested in suggestions according to the style of dress and general appearance. I have come up with some estimates based on the photographer's name on the card, which I won't mention yet as I don't want to prejudice any observations. Thank you :)

I would suggest a date of 1880s and possibly into the 1890s.

The mans dressage  looks a working mans everyday suit with a bib (that roll up when coats removed) front shirt special for photo usage by the photographer  (more for a dickie bow tie for that type of collar) so hard to define a date but I'd say 1890 to 1910

In my opinion the marriage residence is not always the place of birth. Never forget Workhouse and overseers accounts records of birth

Thank you for the estimates, much appreciated.

From what I have found via some research on the photographer, Gibsons had studios at the two addresses shown on the card from 1895, until 1904 in Nottingham and 1907 in Derby. This photograph was almost certainly taken in Nottingham, and the subject unfortunately died in 1902. He would have been 45 in 1895, and I'm inclined to think from the image that it was probably taken towards the earlier part of that period, 1895-1902.
