I didn't realise that, although I suppose it would have been a logical choice as the most up to date info available.  Must have taken a lot of work to allow for war casualties and get it into reasonable shape

They probably did not need to do anything about the war casualties who were showing on the register.  Many service people were not listed as they were included on military records.  My mother who married in 1944 still shows under her maiden name, no adjustment has been made for her married name even though she made good use of the NHS.  :)

I use Ancestry.

I start a new Advanced Search from their Home page.

I type in the Father’s Surname and select Mother and type in her birth Surname.

Then using their marriage date I add 9 to that date and type in the date in the box and select +/- 10 years.

Then I search and look through the results.

I then use where they were married as the likely registration district and work those and even filter using that location.

I will then add to the base search date a few more years and see if there were any late arrival children born.

If there are too many, then I’ll build a new tree around the parents and test out the results before adding to my main tree.

.......you would see if there was a child soon after marriage.
I discovered a child was born in 1940.  So far it appears to be the only one.

Welcome to Rootschat, Poppy. :)

If you want to give information or receive it about Hector Rex, you would be best to start a new thread. You can get this done by clicking ‘Report to Moderator’ and it will be moved.
Cornelius, I think, was just asking advice and started this thread unless you think his query is linked to Hector.

That's right Heywood, it was a general request for advice on constructing a particular type of search and had no relevance to Hector.  As I said upthread, I did find a son named Brian, who appears to be an only child.
