Quinn Family Co Meath
« on: Wednesday 30 August 23 19:14 BST (UK) »
Does anyone have any information about the Quinn family who owned a large piece of land at Ranevogue, Upper Balnagon, Co Meath.  The father John Quinn b. 1878-1959 married Kathleen Fox b. 1895-1950 and they had 8 children (now all deceased).  They owned a farmhouse up the hill which is believe has now been part demolished.  Any information would be greatfully received.

There's a John Quinn (single) in the 1911 census.
House 6 in Balnagon Upper (Boherboy, Meath).

Is this him?

Wow. I believe this is him as he married late in life. I’ve heard 3rd hand that he was quite a charlatan and told his future father-in-law that he owned hectacres of farmland when he only owned a few acres and he left his family starving - surviving on one egg each per day while he was down the pub every evening drinking and showing off by lighting cigars with a rolled-up banknote before tossing it in the fire. His wife eventually succumbed to malnutrition as she kept her egg each day for the priest and would walk all the way to the church every day to gift her egg to the priest. Very sad

What information are you seeking? Are you trying to go back from John Quinn?
As KG wrote, this site is down at the moment https://www.irishgenealogy.ie/en/ but when it is up and running again, you can search for records there.
Going forward, you won’t find births of his children after 1921 but you can search his marriage and deaths.

Is this the family on 1901 census?

http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Meath/Boherboy/Balnagon_Upper/1613805/

Unfortunately that’s not the family. I’m trying to find details of Johns parents. The children are John, Mary-Kate, Bridget, Ellen, Edward, Maggie, Patrick, Peter.  John Jnr died young.

Kloumann has given you the same family in 1901 that you agree is yours in 1911 - posted by
Kiltaglassan.
The census records show the parents as Edward and Mary.
