Maternity home, Chesterfield 1946
« on: Friday 01 September 23 10:33 BST (UK) »
Hi all
My brother was born in 1946 on Whittington Moor in Chesterfield and when i recently asked him where he was born he told me in a maternity home on Nelson Street where we lived but I can find no trace of it. Any help would be much appreciated.

I'm not sure if this helps, except speculatively, but in Kelly's Directory of Derbyshire, 1941, I found this entry listed under Midwives:

"Slinn Mrs Ida May, 28 Stand Road, Whittington Moor, Chesterfield"

I'm not sure if Nelson Street is part of Whittington Moor.  Chesterfield, perhaps?

Possibility?
Derbyshire Times 1945 under births "on Dec 8th at "Beechville " Nelson Street, Chesterfield."
1943 advert for a housekeeper at Beechville Nursing Home, 69 Nelson Street, Whittington Moor.

I cant read the whole piece but it looks like " the family residence known as Beechville situated at the corner of Peveril Road and Nelson street, Chesterfield "was up for sale in 1943 so possibly a nursing/maternity home ( mentioned in both terms) after that.
I guess a birth certificate would confirm.
