this John Evans is a pilot and living at Seaside, although David shows as collier. Perhaps he went to sea later?

David Evans was actually born on 09 June 1854 at Seaside, Llanelly. Father David Evans Mariner and mother Elizabeth Morgan

So, in 1841 we have John Evans a Pilot, 1796, Margaret his wife, 1796, son David, 1828, Coalmimer, dau Margaret 1833 and son Jno (John) 1835, at Seaside, Llanelly. I can’t find the Mariner’s certificate for David but, as suggested, it seems likely that he followed his father into the maritime profession and eventually became a Master Mariner.

In Ancestry non-conformist records I have found likely baptism/birth entries of the children. Interestingly for the first 2 baptisms there seem to be 2 entries, one in tabular form and one as a written entry

David born 13 Feb 1828, baptised 17 Apr 1828 to John and Margaret Evans of Llanelly.
Margaret born 10 Apr 1831, baptised 28 Jun 1831 to John Evans a Pilot and Margaret Evans.
John Evans baptised 27 Apr 1834 to John Evans and Margaret his wife/Thomas. Address Seaside, John’s profession was a Pilot.

Why there is a 2 year age gap for Margaret and 1 year gap for John between these records and the census records is unclear. It could be both died young and the next Dau and Son were named after them.

I can’t obviously find them in 1851 or later.

The likely marriage is John Evans to Margaret Thomas on 8 Dec 1826, Llanelly

Although I can’t find a marriage (perhaps others can?) I think Margaret (the mother) married again to a John Charles.

In 1851 at Nr. Cambrian Place, St Paul’s, Llanelly are:

John Charles age 50, Pembrey, Coal Trimmer
Margaret Charles, Wife, 53, Llandefeilog
Margaret Evans, Step Daughter, 20, Llanelly

And in 1871 at 1 Shambrook Bank (next door to 28 Railway Terrace), Llanelly is:
Margaret Charles, Head, Widow, 77, Llanelly
John Evans, son, 38, Llanelly, Mariner Merchant Service

The ages of children Margaret and John in these census records agree well with the birth/baptism entries
