Most Somerset wills pre1858 were destroyed by enemy action in the Second World War.

Most Somerset wills pre1858 were destroyed by enemy action in the Second World War.

But for some that were proved in the Wells Consistory Court, including this one, there's an estate duty copy at Somerset Archives ...

They will quote for sending you a copy.

Thanks all. It exists because other people say they have it and I've seen a transcription. Hopefully someone can share it.

When I need an estate duty Will I go to my local Family History Center in the U.S.A. You can see the database at familysearch.org. Look at the catalog and search for Somerset, England. Then open the folder for Probate and there you will see a link to estate duty wills.
Willy, Willey, Gifford, England, Fry, Pittard (all in Kingsbury Episcopi Parish, Somerset); Forster (Warkworth, Northumberland; and Isle of Thanet, Kent); & Cartwright & Hancock (Birkenhead, Cheshire)
