Cyclist Corps - H. Timmins
« on: Sunday 03 September 23 17:00 BST (UK) »
I'm researching another Roll of Honour and all I have to go on is:

H. Timmins, Cyclist Corps

I'm a bit confused by 'cyclist' corps - would this have been part of another Regiment?

I cannot find a match on the CWGC site or on Ancestry.  Any thoughts/suggestions appreciated.

This may, or may not, be of any help to you!  I do not have any military knowledge  :-X

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

This is very useful - thank you.  Sadly it looks like most regiments had a cyclist corps :(  I think therefore he may remain one of my 'unidentified'.

What was the Christian Name of your H Timmins ?
When was he Killed?
What evidence do you have that he was in the Cyclist Corps ?

To clarify things.

1.  There was a Cyclist Corps in it's own right.

2.  In addition in 1908 a number of Territorial Reigiments had Cyclist companies. There were 4 regiments (Northern cylcists, Highland, Kent and Huntingdonshire Cyslists whose role was as a cyclcist battalion.

3.  During WW1 some regiments raised 'duplicate' battalions ie a second battalion or a third battalion such as the Yeomanry Regiment mentioned.  Their roles were often home defence and coastal patrolling so they were converted to bicycles rather than horses.

The photo shown on the link is the Birmingham Pals and not a Cyclist nor Warwickshire Yeomanry.
