Which Union is the Registrar's District of Kildorrery (Co Cork) in ?
« on: Tuesday 05 September 23 13:51 BST (UK) »
From a 1931 marriage registration I have "in the Roman Catholic Church of Ballindangan in the Registrar's District of Kildorrery in the Union of Fermoy in the county of Cork"

The RC church of Ballindangan is almost certainly the Church Of The Immaculate Conception here https://www.google.com/maps/search/52.236570,-8.335787, which appears to be in Castleterry townland (checked at townlands.ie, logainm.ie, and osi.ie / webapps.geohive.ie )

johngrenham.com shows the 'place' Ballindangan to be in the Registrar's District of Kildorrery, but in the Mitchelstown Poor Law Union, not Fermoy.

So which is correct ?

(And just in case - Unions and Poor Law Unions are the same thing, aren't they ?)
Most roots researched back to the early/mid 1800s. Years noted as 'pre' refer to my direct ancestors, although I'm interested in any relatives:
Mitchelstown, Co.Cork: CORBETT (pre1935), SWEENEY  (pre1935), CUSACK? (pre1894), KEYS? (pre1894)
Mallow, Co.Cork: BROWNE (1895-1935)
Caher, Co.Tipp: BROWNE (pre1895), PURTELL(pre1895)
Cashel, Co.Tipp: FANNING (pre1886)
Llanelly, Carms: GRIFFITHS (pre1934), REYNOLDS (pre1901), WILLIAMS (pre1934)
Ton Pentre, Glams: LEWIS (pre1901)

Check out this first marriage in 1896.

My 1931 ones definitely say Fermoy
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/marriage_returns/marriages_1931/09017/5263072.pdf

Found a 1926 one too, also Fermoy
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/marriage_returns/marriages_1926/09117/5297717.pdf

So it looks as if some time between 1896 and 1926 the boundaries changed ?

Trying to find some Kildorrery marriages over that period.

Thank you. That sounds like the perfect explanation.
