How to reduce size of old photo?

I’m very keen to ask the experts on this fantastic site to restore an old photo of a great great Grandmother but discovered it is just too big to submit.

Guessing this is quite a common issue and hoping there is a simple way to reduce the size, all help welcomed!

Sarah's (deadants and PrueM) tutorials on Scanning and Resizing are great! Even armed with that info - it can sometimes be challenging. A lot has to do with what software (graphic related) apps you have, and platform you are familiar with. Are you on a Mac or a PC (Mac OS or Windows OS platform). What software apps do you have?
