Maxwell family from Derry to Lanark
« on: Wednesday 06 September 23 12:42 BST (UK) »
Looking for help with a Maxwell family who moved from Derry to Scotland.

John Maxwell and his wife Jane (Rea/Wray/Rea) moved to Scotland some time after 1875 --

The clue I have is the marriage of their daughter Matilda Maxwell to Richard Dickson at Uddington, Bothwell, Lanark on 31 Dec 1897 (registered 1898). Matilda's father John Maxwell is listed as deceased (a steel scravenger?) and mother Jane (Rae) appears to be alive.

I am only interested in trying to locate the Maxwell family - any help gratefully received thanks.

Have you found them on the 1881/1891 Scottish census?

When & where was Matilda born?

Have you looked for a death for John as downloading his death cert will give his parents names

You say the Maxwell family moved to Scotland after 1875.

I can see Matilda b 1870 on the 1891 but not on the 1881.  Did the parents remain in Ireland?

I have just found them in the 1891 census

Grahamston, Turner's land, Neilston, Barrhead & Levern in Renfrewshire
John Maxwell head married 59 (1832) labourer born Ireland
Jane Maxwell wife 51 (1840) b. Ire
Samuel Maxwell son 16 (1875) b. Ireland

So we know the above John Maxwell died between 1891 and 1897
