Help to identify and date uniform, please

Does anyone know what the uniform of the fellow on the left is, please?
It could be Australian, maybe WW2-ish?

It looks like Merchant Navy, they are wearing tropical whites.

It is Navy but not Merchant Navy. The man on the left is a petty officer stoker - tropical uniform. His cap badge also has the King's Crown, so is of that era.
