You might want to check out

FindMyPast baptisms (transcripts only)
William Vase, bap 18 Dec 1814, Heckfield cum Mattingley, parents William and Sarah.
Under notes it states "of Mattingley".

There are no other Vase baptisms in the parish in the timeframe. However, there are 4  Vass baptisms in Heckfield cum Hattingley around this period and 1 Vast baptism in Eversley - all with parents William and Sarah,

One of the baptisms reads
George Vass, bap 7 Apr 1823, abode Heckfield cum Mattingley, parents William and Sarah. Under notes it states "of Hazeley Heath"

Looks promising

This looks very promising. I think I need to get a copy of the marriage certificate and hopefully it will have at least his fathers name on it.
