Thomas Willcox
« on: Saturday 09 September 23 14:19 BST (UK) »
Thomas Willcox ( various spellings of surname - Wilcox, Willcocks, Wilcocks) -- the family bible records that he was born on the 12 December 1997 1797 and died at Colchester, age 3 years in 1800 or 1801 (entry of year of death very faint). Anyone have any idea where I could find his burial entry?

Which church in Colchester ?

Thank you for replying. I honestly don't know - his father, George Willcox, was in the East Middlesex Militia and he married in Northumberland in early 1797 when he was stationed in Northumberland. The family bible states that Thomas was born on the 12 December 1797 and died, aged 3 years, in Colchester. I have found that the East Middlesex Militia had relocated to Colchester at the beginning of April 1801.

The Garrison has it's own church.

A subscription to the Essex Records Office might be the way to go, they have digitised most of the registers.
Sorry my sub has expired.

If you don't find it at the Garrison Church, try St Nicholas it was at the bottom of the High Street almost across from the Castle, possibly the next closest.
They tore it down and put up a Co-op.

I have looked at the Essex Archives site and have been put off by the subscription price when all I am looking for is one burial entry, the 3 year old son of a soldier that was stationed in Colchester with his family before returning to Northumberland in 1803.

amondg suggested the Garrison Church but it looks as though the records that the Archives have online do not cover 1801. amondg also suggested St Nicholas Church which apparently stood opposite the castle.

Would anyone be willing to see if there was a burial entry for Thomas Willcox in 1801, father George Willcox, mother Margaret.

Thank you in hope.
