Robert Russell b. circa 1810
« on: Sunday 10 September 23 10:56 BST (UK) »
I would appreciate any help I can get for info on the above. Married to Margaret (I think Wright?); Griffiths valuation has them in County Tyrone, Dungannon, Cookstown. Three sons William, Robert and Samuel.
William and Robert ended up in Glasgow, Samuel married Ellen Fluke and stayed in Glaslough Co. Monaghan.
Mother Margaret died at Samuel's home in 1879 but I can find no trace of father Robert who I think was a farmer.

Margaret Russel (one L) died at Emy, Co. Monaghan- age 88 and widowed-
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/deaths_returns/deaths_1879/06496/4870172.pdf
So, according the the informant (Samuel Russel) she was born c1791 making her considerably older than husband Robert if he was born c1810.

Samuel Russell married Ellen Fluke in 1871 Armagh district but his residence given as Emy, Co, Monaghan. Father listed as Robert Russell but no indication is he is living or dead.

It's quite possible that Robert Russell died before the start of civil registration of deaths (1864).
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

If this is Samuel - Sam in 1901, he shows as born Monaghan.

There is a comprehensive tree for Robert who went to Scotland.
A marriage is detailed
1859, Woolwich.
Robert is a Bombardier, in Royal Artillery with father Robert, a Farmer.
His bride is Mary Ann Smith.
Is this your family?

There is a military pension record but it is on Fold3 which is a pay site
Robert Russell 39 yrs (b 1831) Donagh, Glass Lough, Monaghan.
(Presumably, Glaslough, the same parish as Emy.)

I noticed that Samuel, age 72, died on Xmas Day, 1906. Son, Samuel present & his sister, Ellen Jane who was deaf & dumb (From 1901 & 1911 census). Very sad.
