KENYA Nairobi live steam model engineers 1930-1950
« on: Sunday 10 September 23 17:59 BST (UK) »
Does anyone know anything about a group of 'live steam model engineers' in Nairobi circa 1930-1950? My grandfather, Fred Watts built his own lathe and tools, he appeared on the front cover od Model Engineer magasine in 1944. I believe he worked for Gailey and Roberts in Nairobi. I have tried contacting Nairobi Train Museum, but no reply. Any info would be useful, many thanks Carolmc

Have you seen this website:
https://www.europeansineastafrica.co.uk

There is an F WATTS of Nairobi on their database from 1930. No further information given, perhaps you could contact the people mentioned on the Introduction page:

There are entries for Gailey and Roberts which are quite interesting.

Hi Thanks for your interest. Unfortunately, nothing new except the old history of Gailey and Roberts. I'm really interested in the trains. However I have emailed Kenya Archives and offered some old photos of Gailey and Roberts circa 1951. I'll wait and see what happens.  Regards carolmc
