Hübner - A clothmaking family
« on: Monday 11 September 23 08:03 BST (UK) »
I am currently researching the clothmaking family Hübner. The earliest known ancestor was Johann Daniel Hübner who was a master clothmaker and burgher of Budsin (Budzyń). The only record that mentions him is his son's marriage record in 1783. His son was Gottfried Benjamin Hübner who was born around 1753. The first known mentions of him in records was in the church records of Rogasen around 1777 as a Godfather in a luthrean church. He married in 1783 to Anna Dorothea Priebe in Kornik. They had a daughter in Kornik until moving to Zaniemysl circa 1785. They had some more children. He wound up dieing at the age of 55 in 1809 in Zaniemysl. He also had a younger brother, Daniel Bernhardt Hübner. Not a lot is known about him except for being listed as being payed by this older brother Gottfried in the School Lists.

If someone could find more about who Johann Daniel Hübner was, that would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

I found this reference, held in Torun archives

https://www.szukajwarchiwach.gov.pl/en/jednostka/-/jednostka/13481985

Roughly means

Joh[ann] Daniel Hubner attests that Joahim Ruhbau, son of Joachim Christian Ruhbau, learned the craft from him for a period of 2 3/4 years and left the workshop with his consent after settling all debts.

I don't see anything that names the craft, but it may be worth following up.

Clicking on the Fond description it looks like the record may pertain just to the Guild of goldsmiths, but there was a Guild of Clothmakers in Torun. Perhaps guild records for Budsin survive?

Are there records to be found because he was a Bürger of the town?

I dont see anything. Mabye, there is a death record of Johann in Budsin around the 1780s/1790s. Mabye there is a census/popualtion list of Budsin around that time.
