Bertha Alice Heys and Family
« on: Tuesday 12 September 23 17:54 BST (UK) »
Please can someone help date this photo. The lady sitting is my Great Grandma Bertha Alice Heys and I think the little girl is my Great Aunt Sarah Ellen born 1910. I think the photo might have been taken either in Nelson or Burnley Lancashire.

I’m hoping I can workout who the other people are in the photo, I know they are the Heys family but I don’t know exactly who they are.

So any help will be gratefully received.

Many Thanks

I agree the photo would appear to be 1908 to 1914.

One Sarah HEYS birth-
HEYS, SARAH mother's maiden name CAUSEY
Ref 1910  December Quarter in BURY
Volume 08C  Page 514

Her father was West HEYS and mother Ellen

If we look at the 1911 census for the family, I think the child in the photo is a little older than the 6 or so months which is what the above girl would be, given a Dec  quarter birth and the April census night.

There was another daughter with the couple that night, Rachel aged 2. They lived in Bury and the spelling of the surname is HAYES on this document.

Perhaps I have the wrong family but if not I am not sure your speculations are quite right.  ;D

Thanks Sue but that’s not my family, Bertha Alice married Fred Nutter ( I should have mentioned that so my apologies).

She died early aged 37 from an aneurysm in her brain, quite sad really.

I’m thinking these people are her brothers and sister with my Great Great Grandad Levi Hargreaves Heys.

It’s really sad when old photos are forgotten about and the people in them too, I just want to be able to put at least a couple of names to the photos I have so when I’m gone they aren’t forgotten again.

Thank you for helping me out I really appreciate it.

The 2 ladies are very fashionable & would be wearing the latest creations.
Those hats are a mid 1900's style that went out of fashion shortly after that.
I would suggest 1905-08 & the child looks around 18 months.

I just love this photo too and yes you’re right it is in remarkable condition for its age, I have a couple more too that are in the same condition too but sadly I only know 1 person in those pictures too, hopefully I will be able to work out who they are eventually.

Have a great day

Thank you Jim that helps quite a bit. If this is my Great Aunt Sarah Ellen then it’s probably 1910 or early 1911.

I appreciate your help.
