William Jones - Schoolmaster, Organist and Choirmaster St. Cuthbert's School
« on: Wednesday 13 September 23 14:52 BST (UK) »
Please could somebody help to improve the appearance of this photograph?
It is William Jones 1834-1915, schoolmaster at Halsall School for 48 years and organist and choirmaster at St. Cuthbert's Church, Halsall for 60 years.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks very much.

Might I ask - do you have this original? And how did you capture the image that you uploaded? Scan (scanner) or a Phone capture?

Welcome to Rootschat, Ange. :)

The problem with your photo is that there's just no depth to the black portions; they're uniformly black, like a silhouette. Lightening it just makes it uniformly grey.

I've cleaned it up a little and tried to bring out his face a bit.

Cheers,
Peter

Correct Peter. Pretty decent job of bring out some detail. Was a particularly challenging prospect - even in the ares that one is able to distinguish some detail. You did a good job of refining and cleaning a bit.
