Ancestry's new dna test
« on: Wednesday 13 September 23 23:13 BST (UK) »
I see that ancestry is now offering a dna test for pets!
Maybe it is because my pets have all been bitzers that I don't appreciate the potential of these tests.

Oh dear!  :D
I know they say that dogs tend to look like their owners. Sort of gives that a new meaning.

I have enough trouble trying to sort out my ancestors where I have a chance to talk to people and ask questions.
How would I cope when the answers consist of woof-woof and grrrrrr?
James -Victoria, Australia originally from Keynsham, Somerset.
Janes - Keynsham and Bristol area.
Heale/Hale - Keynsham, Somerset
Vincent - Illogan/Redruth, Cornwall.  Moved to Sculcoates, Yorkshire; Grass Valley, California; Timaru, New Zealand and Victoria, Australia.
Williams somewhere in Wales - he kept moving
Ellis - Anglesey

The offer arrived in my eMail today.

When I asked my Dog if she would like to take a DNA test, she just stood and stared at me.

I tried a different tack, “would you like to know your heritage, you know, to know where you came from?”

Nothing, just the look, again.

“Look, will you stop staring at me like that?  If you answer my question I’ll give you one of your favourite bickie treats”

Nothing, just the look.

She then got bored, picked up her favourite toy and went to bed.

She looks a bit worried. I reckon there's something in her family history she'd rather you didn't find out!  ;)

I already know my dog is descended from Royalty. She tells me so everyday, and she expects royal treatment as a result.

I've gently pointed out to her that her breed name basically mean 'thieves dog' but she's not having it.
;D Doing my best, but frequently wrong ;D
:-* My thanks to everyone who helps me, you are all marvellous :-*

Dick Eastman's newsletter has an item on pet DNA tests today, and how the results can differ from one lab(oratory) to another. It also describes what happened when someone sent their own DNA in......

(Link at the bottom goes to a longer version of the story, but note that a video starts playing at the top of the page, which you might want to stop.)

I wonder if they will add a feline test and special offer of a free CAT scan for the first 100 customers?
