Lynagh family Falkirk links.
« on: Thursday 14 September 23 11:35 BST (UK) »
Hi, again looking for help in tracing any records (census etc) for the Lynagh family in Falkirk,
from a previous post I have been informed that Catherine Kearns/Cairns nee Lynagh gave birth to a daughter also called Catherine at 27 Silver Row, Falkirk on 5-2-1919, seemingly there is also a marriage record from 1918 naming Catherine Lynagh.

I would be interested and very grateful for any ref to the Lynagh family in the Falkirk area relating to census records etc.
Again I am very appreciative of time and effort taken to follow up on this request.
Thanking you.

The Scottish 1921 census plus all BMD records are available on www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk

It is a pay per view site - not a subscription.  The index is free to search but you have to buy credits to view the full entry or download the certificates

EDIT

1918 marriage on SP - Catherine Lynagh to Hugh James Kearns.  You should be able to find them on the 1921 census

Downloading a copy of the 1918 marriage cert will give both sets of parents names plus mothers maiden names

Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

To confirm you are on the right track, as CaroleW has mentioned, checking the 1918 marriage would be a good next step to confirm her parents' names.

There is a Catherine in Falkirk in 1901 as it happens, but without knowing her birth year, it is hard to know if this could be her with family. All the children showing as born in Falkirk:

Edward Lynagh 46 mason b. Ireland
Annie Lynagh 32 b. Ireland
Maggie Lynagh 11
James Lynagh 9
William Lynagh 7
Patrick Lynagh 5
Catherine Lynagh 2
...and 4 boarders.

Address Silver Raw, Falkirk

Checking births in Falkirk on SP, mother's maiden name is showing as Henry (and variants).
There are further likely births showing on SP post 1901.

Edward Lynagh 35 Grocer & Mason  b. Ireland
Annie Lynagh 21 b. Ireland

In 1881, Edward is boarding at East Bridge St, Falkirk and working as a mason's labourer.

The couple's marriage showing on SP, which will help you with the previous generation:

Son Patrick, b. 1896, left for the US with wife and young children in 1925. (Patrick may have come back to Scotland a few years later).

He gave his mother's details as contact back in the UK: Mrs Annie Lynagh, 23 Silver Row, Falkirk. So looks like the family remained at that address for some years. However, Patrick's WW1 service papers also show 27 Silver Row as address....so let's say best that they remained on the same street for many years!

Just from the general index, you would need to view the original images on SP for details, I think this is the family in Falkirk in 1911

Edward 55
Annie 41
James 18
Patrick 14
Catherine 11
Michael 7
Joseph 6
Bridget 3

1921 shows 3 of the family listed in Falkirk

Michael 18
Joseph 16
Bridget 14

I think father, Edward, may have died in Larbert Stirlingshire in 1917 at the age of 61 (ref 485 / A / 165).

Not easily seeing mother Annie in 1921. Wondering if she could have remarried. However, there are later Valuation Rolls entries that could be hers:

1935 and 1945 have:

ANNIE LYNAGH
WIDOW
Tenant/Occupier
HOUSE 38 MEEKS ROAD MIDDLE WARD
FALKIRK
Refs VR003000052 and VR003000057

Helping perhaps to add to the possible father of Catherine being Edward, I think this is her and young family in Falkirk in 1921. As above, you need to look at the original for the detail:

James 26
CATHE (as indexed) 20
CATHE (as indexed) 2
Edward 1
