Amazingly similar outfit except for the shoes.  I wonder if that huge sash was a restraining device used to keep squirming children from slipping off the bearskin?

Jmagarac - amazing - Susie Belle looks equally bizarre perched on her furry throne and Erato, I agree, the sash does look like a restraint - it doesn’t quite go with the white frills!
There is a fantastic amount of expertise on here - Only recently came across this website and it’s fab!
I am now thinking my photo must be my great uncle, Matthew Potts, who was born in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne in 1894.

My thoughts are that this is a little girl - frilly petticoat and hair tied on top of her head.  I know that boys also wore dresses, but did they wear fancy petticoats?
