Help finding James Reed bap 3 Sep 1826 South Hylton
« on: Thursday 14 September 23 14:26 BST (UK) »
Can anyone help me to find this ancestor please
James Reed bap 3 Sep 1826 at Sth Hylton

He is with his father John, stepmother Isabella and siblings in the 1841 Cenus
By the 1851  census his father has died and he is living with a half brother William Reed and his family at Hylton Ford. He is a shipwright.
There is a James Reed in Wear St who could be him 1871 but I am not convinced either way.
Not able to find him in 1861
After that I am unable to find him.

Any ideas please

Thank you
Judy

PS Out of interest  I have found his brother John Reed b1824 in the 1861 Census in Chatham Kent where he is working as a Shipwright.
However I can not find his wife Maria Reed b1831 Byker, anywhere in 1861 census either. She was with John in 1860 at Chatham. They have a son registered there. But back in South Hylton in 1861 when  their son died.

I think your Wear Street census is the man you are after. It was not uncommon for Shipwrights to go to sea as carpenters were always required on wooden ships.
I do not know why the wife in 1871 is called Elizabeth but maybe it is just an error.

Marriage q3 1853 Sunderland 10a 370 - James REED or Thomas SWINHOE married Agnes ROWLANDS or Mary Ann ADAMSON.
Census 1861 has Thomas married to Mary Ann.

There is a birth for an Agnes Jane Reed with mmn of Rowlands in Sunderland Apr - Jun 1873.
