Mary Houghton Sergeant 1901 Hulme

I'm trying to find where Mary Houghton Sergeant is after the 1891 census. She was born to Sarah Sergeant [unmarried] 26 Feb 1864. Her Father was Richard Houghton and later she was known as Mary Houghton. Born in Wigan she later moved with her family to Hulme I can't seem to find a marriage or a death that fits. Mother Sarah is on the 1901 [Hulme] with son James but no Mary? Also she seems to be called Mary E Houghton on some census and her Mother Sarah A. Is it common to add middle names later? Thanks

Is she Houghton or Sergeant in 1891?

Several marriages under both names on freebmd.  Sergeant can be spelt differently so you are best searching using the wild card s*rg*nt to cover all eventualities

Yes, she was Houghton on both 1871 and 81 census.

Your post says you can't find her after 1891 - where was she then & was she still Houghton?

Makes a difference when looking for a marriage - if she was last found in 1881 she could have married 1881-1891  but if found in 1891 then we are looking 1891-1901

Sarah Sargeant married Richard Houghton 7.3.1864 St Georges Wigan.  Richard died 1872

Mmmm -- the 1891 & 1881 entries have the same lodger so if the above 1881 entry is correct - then the 1891 entry can't be the right entry 

Sarah wasn't b Mawdsley.  She's shown as married but Richard died 1872

Daughter Fanny aged 13 is living with an Ellen Sharpe in Preston in 1881

Can't see an obvious birth reg for Louisa to check mmn

Certainly food for thought though
