Thanks, I am surprised to see all those children in 1910 ,where were they in 1900? Catherine Kelley, seems a possibility, although wasn't the deceased sister also Kate or Katherine and born later than this girl? I wonder where she went after this census. It could be her. Thanks again for your help.

Thanks very much, I wonder about the court case. Is there anything about it, as I am surprised he was jailed and didn't receive a worse sentence.

In the Boston Morning Journal from 22 Feb. 1900, it says he pled guilty to murder in the 2nd degree yesterday and was given a life sentence by Judge Aiken.  According to this - https://www.wamc.org/new-england-news/2015-04-22/massachusetts-varied-history-with-the-death-penalty - conviction of 1st degree murder was an automatic death penalty then in Massachusetts, so that's probably what he was trying to avoid.

The Boston Globe from 1 Jul. 1899 has pictures of William & Theresa and says their daughter was being cared for by Mrs. Katie Rourke, 39 Concord St., where Theresa roomed.

Thanks a lot. Most interesting story albeit tragic, I am still trying to track down the little girl. I hope she had a good life after a terrible start .

I have to admit that while I’ve been reading the postings since the topic started, I probably don’t remember all of the facts. But, possibly worth mentioning…

1900 - two adopted children, one being Cathrine Kelley, born 1893 (age at last birthday -7).
1910 - nine children on census. Mary Louise stated she was the mother of 11 children, 11 still living.
Perhaps she adopted nine more children after the 1900 census was taken.

My family knew a very kind man who over decades “fostered” many youth.  He had a good life, cared about his community and “troubled” young people and wanted the youth to have a second (and sometimes, third) chance.  Perhaps Marie Louise adopted youth just to help her, or perhaps she was also a kind soul, wanting to help people (if, in fact, the children were all adopted).  It might be interesting to research the children (later in life) to see if they were her actual birth children, or they were also adopted.

The following site is “not secure”
http://loucraft.blogspot.com/2016/
but one of Marie Louise’s sons, Joseph Leo, mentioned after his father’s death, his “widowed mother was left to raise eleven children alone”.
Ellison: Co. Wicklow/Canada       Fowley: Sligo/Canada       Furnival: Lancashire/Canada       Ibbotson: Sheffield/Canada       Lee/DeJongh: Lancashire & Cheshire       Mumford: Essex/Canada       Ovens: Ireland/Canada       Sarge: Yorkshire/Canada             Stuart: Sligo/Canada       Sullivan: Co. Clare/Canada      Vaus: Sussex/Surrey      Wakefield: Tuam or Ballinasloe, Ireland              (Surname: Originated/Place Last Lived)  (Canadians lived in Ontario)

Think the 1910 census is a "red herring" and not the correct Marie Louise Rivet.

This Marie Louise Rivet was married to Adelard Rivet who died in 1908

Adelard Rivet - 1859 Canada (aged 49 years)
Death Date   25 Dec 1908   Lowell, Massachusetts
Father    Antoine Rivet Mother    Emelie Belisle

This family in 1900 Austin Street, Lowell Ward 7, Middlesex, Massachusetts (same children as 1910)

Adelard Rivet   40   Head
Louisa Rivet 35   Wife
Aldea Rivet 17   Daughter
Delmina Rivet 15   Daughter
Adelbert Rivet 14   Son
Clara Rivet 11   Daughter
William Rivet 5   Son
Rosario Rivet 3   Son
Agnea Rivet Daughter
Hildhege Barry 23   Brother-in-law

This was the obit for Rosario Rivet
